Are you a vSAN 6.x customer? vSphere 6.0 Update 3 is out! There are a bunch of important fixes and improvements (checksumming performance for instance) in Update 3, so I would highly recommend looking in to it and testing it out.

Hi Duncan this is a vSAN related question that i would like you to share your thoughts with me. Here it goes… The value of VSAN is doubtless but i continue to see a challenge where customers who use VMware already with traditional storage continuously ask me – so what do i do with this HP 3PAR etc. There is the option of VVOLs but the Hosts are end of life and the customer wants to replace them with vSAN ready nodes. From your experience how would you have this conversation?

You can use both at the same time if desired. We have many customers doing this. They buy vSAN ready nodes when their Servers are to be refreshed, and all new workloads will go to vSAN and VMs requiring higher performance. Then when it is time to renew the support contract of the array they move the rest over and that is it. Also, I have customers who buy a vSAN ready node but without the disks/devices. They still have 1 or 2 years left on their support contract and when the time comes they will simply procure the devices and move stuff over.

What about 6.5?

Has anyone else noticed that when moving to Update 3, the VSAN Proactive Multicast performance test fails now? How big of a problem might this pose?
