I love exploring new products, no matter how many times I click through the GUI and browse through the directory structure on the console you discover will discover something new everyday.
I never noticed this one, but as of the next version of ESX/vCenter you can rescan your complete cluster or datacenter just by right clicking on the object and click on “Rescan for Datastore”. Cool now I will not need to run a script anymore…

“Rescan Datastores” … cool
But my question is is this similar to a Rescan HBA or a refresh datastores…
We ussually put the host in maintannace mode before rescaning HBA as we had vm being orphanned in the past…If this is like a Rescan HBA i guess it just does it without going into maintance mode
Duncan Epping says
Yes it’s similar you can rescan for vmfs or new luns.

Hey Duncan. That’s great news. In the meantime, would you mind posting your rescan script? Thank you!

I just ran across this today by chance. It definitely makes life easier. Here is the script that I would use before today.
Connect-VIServer “localhost”
Get-Cluster | Get-VMhost | Get-VMHostStorage -RescanAllHBA
