For anyone using the good old Winscp client, it was just updated to 4.0.7. Same goes for mRemote, it has just been updated to version 1.35. Pick it up, and while your at it visit VM4All. Eric keeps track of all VMware related tools!

FastSCP not working with ESX 3.5
Default FastSCP isn’t working with ESX 3.5. I just noticed this download: http://www.veeam.com/download/fastscp/FastSCP.xml
It’s indeed a firewall related problem, copy this file into /etc/vmware/firewall.
Run the following command “service mgmt-vmware restart” and open up the Portrange with VirtualCenter. Opening it up can also be done from the commandline with “esxcfg-firewall -e FastSCP”. Veeam still has to fix the “edit function” which doesn’t work with 3.5 anymore, expect a new release in Januari / Februari 2008.
Storage VMotion add-ons!
I’m not the only one who thinks that the Storage VMotion interface is a burden. A couple of scripting wizards started creating a decent interface for the Storage VMotion script, which definitely come in handy. Check them out:
- Dominic of VMProfessional created an additional perl script to make storage vmotion a bit easier. It works very simple just edit the script to include your VC url, username, password, cluster and Datacenter, then you will be prompted with a list of VMs to choose from, and a list of target datastore to choose from. Check it out at his website, VMProfessional.
- ASP24 created a PHP website with some easy to use dropdown boxes. It’s hosted on the VMware VMTN forum. I did not had the opportunity to test it by the way.
mRemote 1.0!
mRemote has just released version 1.0. For those who never heard of mRemote, it allows you to manage all your remote connections in a single place. It currently supports the RDP, VNC, SSH, Telnet, RAW, Rlogin, ICA and HTTP/S protocols. Pick it up at sourceforge.net.
