Everyone installing more than 2 or 3 ESX hosts at a time should start with scripting their installation in my opinion, why?:
- it will save time
- consistent installations
- no need anymore for doing backups of the ESX host

VMware just released a new PDF called “VMware VDI Storage Considerations“. This PDF contains some “good to know” facts about protocol behaviour. Just check it out…

How cool is this Powershell script! Mike D. wrote a powershell script that does exactly what Hyper-V’s quick migration does. It should be possible to integrate it with the VC Client, and if they open up the ESXi SDK as Mike suggest than you have the functionality for the free hypervisor from VMware. By the way talking about a free hypervisor, Hyper-V is also available as of today.

VMware just released a whole bunch of patches for 3.0.x, so if you’re still using 3.0.x than you should take a look here. At least three of them are related to Linux Guests! There are 6 patches for 3.0.2 and 4 for 3.0.3. Have fun, ๐

Well this was bound to happen sooner or later, the only question left was who would be picking up Lefthand. Well HP it is! And it’ not really surprising after Dell picked up Equallogic.
HP today announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire LeftHand Networks Inc., a leading provider of storage virtualization and iSCSI storage area network (SAN) solutions.
LeftHand Networks’ solutions enable midsize companies and remote offices or branches of large corporations to easily and cost-effectively protect critical business data. HP has agreed to purchase LeftHand Networks for $360 million in cash, subject to certain purchase price adjustments. Lefthand’s news release, HP’s news release.
I really liked Lefthands appliances and hope this will remain when they are incorporated into HP’s line of products!
