VMware vSphere 4.1 HA and DRS Technical deepdive for only $17.96 on amazon.com

Duncan Epping · Mar 10, 2011 ·

Not sure where this discount is coming from but I figured I would share it with you. You can pick up the vSphere 4.1 HA and DRS Tech Deepdive for $ 17.96 on Amazon.com. That is about as cheap as it can ever get in my opinion. Pick it up.

By the way, Frank and I are working on a major Update of the book. If you spotted any glitches or have any comments drop ’em here so we can incorporate them. Before you ask, yes we will be reconsidering an ebook version!

I bought the book as soon as I could after it was released. Must all current owners re-buy the updated book etc.??

    Thank you…

The update will be published with an upcoming major version and include more than HA and DRS… I would definitely recommend buying it 🙂

Amazon should have made lots of money by selling this book. That’s why they sell it with discount. 😉

By the way do you know how many of this books have sold so far?

    Peace

Can it be made available in Kindle format?

The next version might be published as an ebook. it depends on the amount of work involved as it is “self-publishing” it is us (frank and I) reformatting.

I would appreciate the page numbers being in the proper location (lower, outside corner) on both even and odd pages.

Honestly, there are a few minor grammatical glitches in the text that I’d be happy to shoot over, but I’ve found it overall to be a solid piece of work. Given that it was self-published, especially impressive.

    Nice job guys! 🙂

Duncan, I apologize for the delay in my response. I’ve got a few marked down (nothing major, but maybe worth fixing):

Page 20, end of 3rd paragraph: ‘effected’ should be ‘affected’
Page 27, first sentence of last paragraph: ‘why do we need…’ — can remove the ‘do’
Page 28, second sentence: ‘As stated above’ – I don’t think it was mentioned before this sentence that Legato developed AAM
Page 28, 2nd to last and last sentence of paragraph 1: ‘In-Memory’ and ‘FLASH’ capitalization is unnecessary.
Page 28, last sentence: ‘The underlying…’ — I don’t understand this sentence, but it could just be me.

I’ve got some more, and I’ll PM them to you if you like — just shoot me the address you’d like me to use.

        Doug

Don’t know if you can correct it, but the example for host affinity rules in DRS does not hold any water anymore with Oracle.

I tried to use it with them recently and they ignored it, and just stated that VMware was a “soft-partition” technology; therefore we needed to pay for the entire cluster.

Maybe change it to an example company for licensing, rather than state Oracle (which is kinda misleading).

The joke there is that Solaris Containers are approved as an Oracle licensing segmentation boundary, but no other virtualization platform is allowed. Logic doesn’t seem to apply: hardware virtualization provides a much lower level of partitioning than doing it at the operating system, but Larry likes his own stuff best.

Any chance a version for the Kindle will be released soon?

    • Duncan says

We are reconsidering an ebook, probably kindle, for the next version of the book. So this book that is currently on sale will not be published as an ebook.

Duncan stated in his original post that he was considering an ebook version. So if he makes an ebook version then good odds it’ll be for a kindle.

Picked it up, can’t wait for it to arrive. Thanks to both of you for putting this book together! An e-book version of the updated book would be a great thing if you guys can make it happen.
