vSphere Quick Start Guide available as an electronic copy!

Duncan Epping · Dec 27, 2009 ·

Last week we decided to also make the vSphere Quick Start Guide available as an electronic book as requested by many of you. We discussed Kindle and PDF format, and decided to go with PDF as Kindle is not widely used in Europe. It’s available for only $ 9.99 or €7.14 via lulu. Pick it up.

We are currently also discussing a follow-up. I can’t say much about it though as it is in very early stages. It will not be a revision of the QSG though, it will be a complete new book and focused on the next version of vSphere! That’s about all I can say at this point in time. No release date, no ToC, no Title… stay tuned!

Quick Start Guide availability in Europe

Duncan Epping · Dec 7, 2009 ·

Many people have already asked for this as amazon’s shipping is slow or too expensive. After a short discussion we decided to also make the vSphere Quick Start Guide available via lulu.com. Lulu has printing shops in Europe which makes shipping a lot faster and a bit cheaper.

We are also currently discussing a PDF version of the book…. more soon!

vSphere Quick Start Guide: 1000 copies gone…

Duncan Epping · Dec 5, 2009 ·

The last weeks have been crazy. As you know we’ve been working hard to get the vSphere Quick Start Guide out. Last week it was finally officially released and up on Amazon. It has been doing great and thanks to all of you who bought a copy and of course thanks to Vizioncore and EMC we already sold over 1000 copies so far. (If your company also wants to buy copies to give away, contact me!) I think this is an amazing achievement considering the fact that it is a 100% DIY project. No help from a publisher, no advertising, “just” community help. So all you bloggers out there who wrote reviews and announcements thanks for making this a success already. For those who haven’t bought one yet… Christmas is coming up and for just $ 15.99 you can’t go wrong! Buy one now, or two or three….

Now let’s start working on the follow up, believe me it is going to be even better! If you have any tips though please let us know… (Yes the font will be slightly bigger next time.)

vSphere 4.0 Quick Start Guide: Shortcuts down the path of Virtualization

Duncan Epping · Nov 23, 2009 ·

It took us longer than expected, my apologies for that, but the vSphere 4.0 Quick Start Guide is finally available! Time lines got extended as we decided to go with Booksurge instead of Lulu. Booksurge is an Amazon company which means Amazon sells it as of today.

So what is the vSphere Quick Start Guide? 256 Pages of tips and hints on how to get around with vCenter, the Service Console and Powershell. Or as Amazon describes it: “vSphere 4.0 Quick Start Guide continues from an idea started several years ago by a few engineers. The idea was simple, provide an easy to use reference guide for all level administrators, consultants and architects. Recently VMware introduced many new features in vSphere 4.0 and with this handy pocket guide you will learn about each of these new features. With each chapter, the pages in this essential guide will answer common questions while giving you unprecedented insight into: Expert tips & tricks Pitfalls to avoid RemoteCLI & PowerCLI (PowerShell) scripts Configuration how to’s Virtualization best practices.”

Just to make it absolutely clear, although Alan Renouf is not mentioned on Amazon he is one of the six Authors and responsible for all Powershell scripts included in the book. For some weird reason Amazon does not take more than 5 authors and Alan got cut off but we are working on getting Alan listed as we speak.
