It has been a while since I have done one of these articles (1, 2, 3). Last one was in 2010 and it started in 2009. (If you only want to read technical / IT related articles, don’t bother continuing reading this one…) Let me quote my first post in 2009 so those who are recent followers understand where this is coming from:
Luciano Pavarotti once said, “You don’t need any brains to listen to music”, and he’s right… that’s why I love music. Whenever I need to clear my head I pick up my
mp3 playeriphone and go outside for run.
Every once in a while a “new song / album / band” comes along that helps me clear my mind. That helps me take three steps back when I can’t see the solution to a difficult problem.
The first song is titled “A Trick With No Sleeve“. It is taken from the Sound City Movie and by: Alain Johannes / Dave Grohl / Joshua Homme. I don’t know what it is about this song, but I think I listen to it at least 4 or 5 times a day. It has a nice groove, but the vocals by Alain Johannes make this song special if you ask me. The solo work by Alain typically doesn’t rock my boat, but this song just sticks.
The second song is by Pharrell, it took me a while to pick this one as I was in doubt between Daft Punk and Pharrell with Get Lucky and Robin Thicke / Pharrell with Blurred Lines. I think I hear both songs passing by at least 2 or 3 times a day as my kids love them and they just stick. Funny thing is that I am not a Pharrell fan, but these two songs just have a great beat and atmosphere.
The third song is by Queens Of The Stone Age and titled “I sat by the ocean” and from their recently released album titled “… Like Clockwork”. I selected the live track that was recorded in Holland. To begin with, I love this band. I also dig the vibe their songs typically have, and the opening line of the song “I sat by the ocean and drank a potion, baby to erase you” seems to be on repeat inside of my head. I find myself singing this all days long, until it drives me nuts. Hence the reason it made this list.
That was it for part IV, if you ever are in the position where you don’t have a clue how to solve a problem just do like I do… go out for a walk or a run and listen to some music that allows you to clear your mind. Or put on your headphones, lean back and close your eyes and just listen if you don’t like walking/running. Believe it helps, after ~10 minutes or so you will look at your problem with a fresh mindset. Now lets just hope we get some decent tunes at VMworld!
