iBook / Nook? What really?

It took us a while to figure this one out, but finally we managed to create a proper epub version of our book. Converting from Kindle to iBooks / Nook is not easy, but after using multiple tools and manually editing the book using Sigil we managed to create version which was submitted to the iBooks store and Barnes & Nobles a couple of weeks ago. This morning I noticed that the book has been made available. So for all those who have been asking about it, here are the links:

vSphere 4.1 HA/DRS Deepdive available in the Kindle Lending Library!

For those who hadn’t seen it yet, the “vSphere 4.1 HA/DRS Deepdive” is available in the Kindle Lending Library! The Kindle Owners’ Lending Library is a collection of books that Amazon Prime members who own a kindle can borrow once a month, with no due dates. (Yes you will need a Kindle Prime subscription!) Spanish vSphere 5 book out now!

A week ago Jose Maria Gonzalez contacted me and asked me if I wanted to write the foreword for his new book. I said yes and asked when it needed to be ready. Jose responded well… asap, preferably tomorrow so I started working on it. I finished quickly and Jose translated it to Spanish. So if you are Spanish speaking and looking for a book on vSphere 5 head over to and pick it up. It is a DIY book, in other words self-publishing. I want to a share a bit of the foreword for those who don’t speak Spanish, as I feel strongly about this…

Maybe even more important, consider sharing your experiences with the rest of the world like Jose did, and hopefully will continue to do. I do realize that not everyone enjoys writing books or blogging, but there are other ways of sharing knowledge and expertise. For example, join your local VMware User Group (VMUG) and host a session about your experiences and the challenges you faced. If there is no local VMUG consider starting one! (Bring back the UG in VMUG.)

When you start sharing your experiences you will quickly discover that there are more people facing similar challenges, you will meet new people who will give you their opinion on how to design, implement and maintain a virtual infrastructure. By giving back to your local, or even the global, community you will gain more knowledge than you could have ever imagined. Sharing your expertise might lead to opportunities you never expected to have, but more importantly it is what will enable you to be the best you can possible be.

When self-publishing you face a couple of challenges and one of those is to get your books available in bookstores and at events. Frank managed to get our book available at VMworld and it will be sold at the VMworld Bookstore. If you haven’t picked up your copy yet this will be your chance to do so and you might even be able to get it signed at the show! (We are considering a book signing session if people are interested, reply here if you are!) Be warned, as far as we know it will be the only vSphere 5.0 book available at VMworld so we are expecting that it will sell out fairly quick.
