So lately I’ve also joined the Twitter Hype, if you want to follow my micro blogging: http://twitter.com/depping. Maybe I’ll add a nice Twitter icon on the right if I can find the time…
Marathon HA/FT vs VMware HA/FT
A couple of days ago I linked to Mike D. response to Marathon’s blogs. Mike has updated his original blog article and added a second article which responds to another blog by Marathon. Those who are interested in the difference between Marathon’s and VMware’s products should definitely read it. Especially if you’ve only read the Marathon posts so far. Mike D. sets the record straight!
a short outtake: “This wasn’t talked about but Marathon’s virtualization FT only works with Windows 2003 Standard or Enterprise SP1 today. VMware FT works with any of the over 70 certified guest operating systems that run on Virtual Infrastructure. The Marathon solution also sits deeply embedded within the OS.”
Marathon everRun vs VMware HA – Another Mess
a short outtake: “As you can now see, Marathon obviously has never touched a VMware host to setup VMware HA. They simply type what they want customers to hear on their webpages time and time again and rely on that FUD to get them sales.”

Back to business again, patches!!
So it’s back to business again after a couple of crazy days during VMworld. All the blogs can return to their normal “technical” writing.
VMware just released a whole bunch of patches for ESX(i) 3.5, so for you SysAdmins it’s also back to work again. You can find them here.
There’s also a new release for VMware’s Lab Manager available, version 3.0 Patch 1. There’s a KB article about this patch release, read it before you run it.
Marathon’s attack…
Marathon seems to be afraid of VMware’s Fault Tolerance:
Marathon’s team at VMworld got to sit in on the VMworld session Tuesday morning that covered VMware’s newly announced technology for fault tolerant VMs. While not bad for FT rookies, from what we saw, it’s a less than perfect solution for a lot companies that want to run business critical and mission critical applications in VMs. (source)
Mike D. responded to this blog on his blog… Read it and find out if Marathon is telling the truth or if these guys were sleeping when VMware announced this new product…. but I guess you can predict the outcome.
