Join the program!
Join the VMware referral program and receive $ 10,- for every two valid referrals:
We’re pleased to announce a new VMware Referral Program that gives you rewards when you recommend VMware products to others. You can participate even without a blog or website, as we give you the tools to send custom emails or bug your friends on social networks, or if you do have a blog, you can get a spiffy widget like you see on the right, and you can customize what it says. (All rewards through this particular widget go to the Red Cross, by the way.) You’re also giving out a special “friends & family” offer, which at this point is a 10% discount.
You get $10 credit (which can go straight to your PayPal account or to a gift card or charity) every time two VMware Store purchases are made from your referrals. (That $10 number tells me that we expect to moving more copies of Fusion and Workstation than VI Enterprise through this referral, but go crazy selling ESX if that’s what you’re into.) In any case, it’s a great way to spread the word about the solutions you use every day that make your life easier and got you your last promotion.
I’m currently working on a new design, so expect the referral widget to pop up within a week, and with holiday season coming up I can’t think of a better present than VMware Workstation! If you can’t wait, click here!.
Blogging @ VMworld Europe?!
So if you want to do some live blogging at VMworld Europe you better be sure to read this blog. Richard Garsthagen is taking care of the famous Bloggers Lounge, and last editions have been a treat for the bloggers:
I’m not making any promises, but last year the folks who were regularly blogging were treated very well by Richard, including custom shirts, a nice place with power and connectivity and refreshments to blog, press passes, and room to shoot video or do interviews. I highly recommend getting on Richard’s list.
I don’t know if I’m able to go and if I will have time to do live blogging but I will try and pull all strings! Register now and make sure you won’t miss out on this awesome event in the south of France!
The famous Dutch VMUG event!
Just a couple of weeks left and a few more spots on the list… make sure to get your tickets now cause The Dutch VMUG Event will probably be sold out. 400 tickets have been sold so far and there are about 200 left.
The agenda has been announced, and it’s going to be an awesome day especially with guys like Eric Sloof, Richard Garsthagen and Bouke Groenescheij presenting. I’ll be there, and so should you guys, and if you see me walking around just come up and say hi!
Ubuntu 32bit and 4GB of memory
For a 32bit OS you can theoretically address 4GB of memory, but when running a 4GB system with a 32bit OS hit you’ll probably hit a barrier around roughly 3GB. For Windows XP there’s no way of solving this unfortunately as far as I know, which is a shame cause 800MB was not being utilised. For Ubuntu there is, my former colleague Patrick pointed me out to this and it works great, thanks again for me helping me:
sudo apt-get install linux-server linux-headers-server
So what it does is installing the Ubuntu server kernel which includes PAE support. PAE stands for Physical Address Extension and it increases the address size from 32bits to 36bits which means you can address up til 64GB. For more info on PAE read this wiki.
