After installing ESX 3.5 update 1 an error occurs during the boot proces:
Parsing error: parse error: Error adding class VMware_IdentityMemberOfCollection to the repository: CIM_ERR_NOT_FOUND: The requested object could not be found: “VMware_Identity”
Compiling omc-smash-interop-schema.mof into root/PG_Interop
A quick search on the VMTN forum revealed that I wasn’t the only one experiencing these problems. Luckily Mike Laspina already […]

Yesterday evening I witnessed a weird phenomenon. We had to bring down a complete environment to move a 19″ rack to a different location. We switched the SAN on, waited a couple of minutes and switched the ESX hosts on. When the ESX hosts finished booting we booted the VirtualCenter. Everything looked normal in the […]

Clint discovered the following:

Ran into a problem while doing some performance testing on some test VMs. We found that we had no historical performance data for the VM or Host. All we had was real time data. This can be a major issue, especially when you are trying to troubleshoot or like in this […]

When updating VMware Tools the setup constantly bailed out without a decent error. So I decided to un-install the Tools and install them again. Un-installing went smooth but when installing it again I ended up with the error “internal error 2203″. After googling this error the Citrix website gave me the solution, check your tmp […]

Today I received the following error at a customer site when applying patch via the Update Manager:”Metadata for patch missing.” After a close inspection I noticed VirtualCenter wasn’t running on port 80 but on 81 for some reason. Opening up the ESX Firewall and restarting the VMware Update Manager service seems to fix this problem. […]

For those who encountered the same weird networking problems as I did, I was just browsing through the Knowledge Base articles for the patches released yesterday and found out that they fixed the driver for the Intel quad-port nic. When using VST half of the packets were dropped, for more info on the problem check […]

I was just testing the new patches on a couple of servers when I noticed that when I pressed “remediate” the first patch(ESX350-200802403-BG) was installed without the ESX host going into maintenance mode. When the second patch(ESX350-200802409-BG) was installed the server went into maintenance mode. According to the VUM Documentation(vi3_vum_10_admin_guide.pdf) the server should always go […]

Back in the days of ESX 2.5 I managed a bunch of IBM Servers. It regularly happened that when a raid mirror set broke the IBM ESX host(the only servers I witnessed this with…) froze completely. I thought this problem was fixed with 3.0.x and I thought it was a VMware problem.

During the installation of VirtualCenter the following error code was presented “25036″. With no further message the installation is cut-off. After a close inspection it seemed that there already were a couple of SQL Express 2005 services installed, the software was removed and the services were still there but disabled. I guess for some reason […]
