If you just upgraded to 3.5 Update 2 and updated VMware tools and want to use VSS for snapshotting than you will have to enable this manually for each VM:

  1. In the VMware Tools installer, select Modify > Drivers > VSS.
  2. Complete the installation process.
  3. Restart the virtual machine to make sure VSS components are installed and running.

so does the vmware vss service need to be in the started mode. Mine is in manual.

When i started a snapshot on exchange i dont see in the event logs any notification of any vss or legato drivers

thanks

2. jason said,

so it seems these vss options are kicked off only when you use VCB. So should we still stay away from taking vmware snapshots of DBs like exchange sql and ad?

3. Duncan said,

Yeah, stay away from it!
